(I PROMISE I’M STILL ALIVE. Sort of. I don’t even know anymore. someone love me.)
John looked up to meet her gaze again. He managed to smile a bit, “You know…we’re really going to need each other soon. If what Lasky said is true, then we’re in a mess of trouble. I need you and I don’t want to do anything that would upset you. But…but if you say it’s ok…”He swallowed as he stared into her eyes.
He reached over to brush his fingers across her cheek, just to see how solid she was. She was warm, but it didn’t feel entirely natural. Like touching a very low watt lightbulb. She would tell even through his fingertips, if she was capable of a sense of touch, that his pulse was racing. He then leaned forward, stopping with his face mere inches from hers. He searched her eyes a bit before closing his eyes and pressing his lips against hers in a soft and almost hesitant kiss.
John pulled away and just stared at her. What the hell was he doing? He sighed and turned his head away. The hint of a blush came to his cheeks as he rubbed at the back of his neck. Maybe he just needed to get it out of his system. He did feel a bit more relieved. He stared at the floor in silence for a bit.
He then lifted his head and stared forward, “A lot of things have changed. There’s a new breed of Spartans. We’ve started taking Requiem. We’re pushing out the Covenant separatists. But….I’m beginning to feel like I’m antiquated goods. Like they just keep me around because they know I’ll follow orders.”
The Spartan looked over at her, “You were the only thing keeping me going and still are. Cortana…don’t leave again.”
(To those who follow me, I apologize for not being active. My desire to roleplay chief has been incredibly blah and I’ve been battling a bit of depression. Cortana, I <3 you, I know i owe you a reply. Everyone else, if you want to roleplay with me just shoot me an ask and I’ll get to you eventually. I promise.)
John chuckled and shook his head, “Yeah. Kind of ridiculous that I’m a nervous pile of nonsense right now. We’ve been through a lot together. Things that barely even fazed me. But sitting next to you like this? My heart is racing and it’s hard to form words. I’m not….used to this feeling.”
He watched her reaction with a small frown. He heard the hesitation in her words. Was she just humoring him now? It sort of sounded like it. He knew she was just trying to be there for him. He stared at her before casting his gaze to the side again. He smiled nervously, “As incredibly bad as I want to kiss you…it doesn’t seem like that’s something you want. I’m just….mostly happy that you’re here. That I can actually touch you for once…”

John sighed heavily and lowered his gaze to his lap, “I don’t mean to be a distracted mess. It was just….seeing you again and seeing you capable of speaking to me again threw me through a loop. It was a lot to take in all at once. I think I can keep myself together now. I’m calming down.” He looked up at her, “It’s hard to believe that you’re able to….touch me.”
A million thoughts and questions then ran through his mind. Was she just being friendly and nurturing? Did she form herself a lightcast body because she felt the same way he did? Or was she doing it just to comfort the confused Spartan? He wanted to ask all these questions but none of them came out.
He stared into her eyes then said hesitantly, “Cortana can I…”He trailed off. He averted his gaze from her eyes. He wanted to ask her if he could kiss her. It would probably be blatantly clear that’s what he wanted. It was obvious he didn’t have the nerve to say it. He had faced down horrors with no fear but he was choking up about kissing a woman.

John had been sitting there for….well he didn’t really know how long. His thoughts were a mess and his emotions were tearing him apart. He needed to pull himself together. If he didn’t then Cortana wouldn’t want to be around him. He would be less efficient. But was it possible to suppress his emotions? He didn’t know. He had gone so long not having them that now that they had surfaced, he had no idea how to deal with them.
The Spartan was initially confused when he felt the hand on his shoulder. then he heard the voice. Her voice. He slowly lifted his head and looked over at Cortana. She was right there beside him. She had touched him. His heart raced a mile a minute in his chest. He just stared at her as if he was seeing a ghost.
He finally spoke in a choked voice, “Co-…Cortana? Did I fall asleep? Am I dreaming? I must be dreaming. If I was awake….well you’d probably be scolding me or lecturing me about my emotions or something.”He was rambling out of nervousness. Shut up, John. Get a grip of yourself. He looked her over, a flood of emotions coursing through him. He wanted to hug her, kiss her, just hold her. But first….he wanted to see if this really was a dream. And if it wasn’t….he wanted to see what she had to say first.

John stared at where Cortana once was for way too long. He didn’t say anything or really move for that matter. Lasky cleared his throat and stepped towards the Spartan. The captain offered a smile, “You have her back, Chief. Looks like the two of you get to save the world again.”
John looked at Lasky and nodded, “Yeah. Just like old times. I’ll be returning to my quarters for now if you will allow it, sir.” He straightened up and saluted Lasky.
Lasky nodded, “At ease, Chief. You’ve earned rest for the day. Looks like you could use it.”
John nodded and walked away from the captain. He made his way to the armory to have his armor removed. After that was done, he went back to his quarters to sit on the edge of his bed. He buried his face in his hands and willed himself not to cry. He felt like he had destroyed things with Cortana….

And if it wasn’t….he wanted to see what she had to say first.
She somehow knew he was going to say that, her face expression changed and she tried to cover it by turning around, she was feeling foolish for having a these mixed feelings, she thought it was her duty to take care of the colony and it’s secret, though it never was. It was only a reminder of what had happened and what led her to her current state yet this was still her home. Everything she ever knew, she started to wonder if what she was doing was selfish or if it was right. “I-…” She paused and took a deep breath “i was never going to be able to take care of it forever anyway, its to big for me, haha.” She said as she tried to cover what she felt, this was everything she had left after all. “Please, follow me, this way” she said as she walked into the empty corridor.
John sighed when noticing the change in her tone. He knew what it was like to have things stripped away….to only have one thing and then lose that one thing. It’s how he had felt about Cortana. He winced a bit when remembering her….trying not to. He didn’t want to get emotional. That wasn’t who he was. Right?
He looked over at her with a sigh then nodded, “This station has served its purpose. It’s about time you found a new one and see the world outside this space station. I’ll make sure you’re taken care of.” He walked behind her, his heavy footfalls once again echoing with a metallic clang as he made his way after her.
“Thank you,” As they walk further it begins to get darker and somewhat dangerous ” if you still have that weapon, i consider you should unfold it” she said, they kept walking forward until they heard some hissing sounds, and felt move, ent around the area, Maria know what was going on, for these creatures were all around the ARK, but just the ones protecting the core had gone rampant maybe for self defense, or maybe they have Always been that way. “Im going to turn out the lights, they might get disturbed by it, so be careful” she said as she approached the monitor that seemed to be the last to be online. And it was having static, when the lights were on some of them jumped out, hissed loudly and crowled over.
John followed after her and when she mentioned needing a weapon, he frowned. He removed his assault rifle from his back and with a click, the safety was off. He switched the nightvision and looked all around him. He shook his head, “What is down here anyway? Why would there need to be such heavy security?” When she mentioned turning the lights off, he was a bit confused. He then hear the hissing and leveled his gun. He scowled and spoke out to her, “Get behind me.” He kept his gun trained on the approaching creatures, ready to fire at a moment’s notice.
Maria hid fast behind him, scared and somehow unnaware of what was going on, she just stayed there silent, as the creatures continued crawling over, their watery transparent bodies could show their lack of legs and the exoskeleton inside them, most of them just hissed, and others tried to capture them both with their artificial tentacles. These creatures were disgusting abominations created by the rage and the damaged mind state of what once used to be a great scientist and this was just the beggining. “We’re are getting closer, as we move foward, they’ll get even more aggresive and powerfull” she was starting to wonder if she should get a weapon to help him, she didnt know what to do, the last time she was in that kind of situation everything went messed up, and it became a tragedy.
John watched the creatures approach, his eyes studying their anatomy rather quickly. He brought his rifle up and took careful aim. The loud bang of several well-aimed shots fired out. The appendages coming out at them were blasted off at the hilt, causing them to drop to the ground harmlessly. A burst of bullets also went through the skulls of each creature. He popped the emptied clip out and slammed a new one in. The click-clack of the hammer of his rifle rang out as he sent a fresh bullet into the chamber. He looked over his shoulder a bit, “Then I’m going to need a bigger gun.”

His comment made Maria remember about certain things aboard the colony that needed to be… Lets put it this way: locked right away, before she left, but did she had to say everything about it? Her expression changed from happy to thoughtful and then to break the silence she said “i have to lock some things too, and i think that you should know something before we leave, maybe that would be one of the reasons i didn’t left..” Then she faced him and said, ” do i really look that young? Also if you wish to you can quit calling me ma’am”
He stood there staring forward in silence, waiting for her response. Was it right of him to do this? His compassion for those trapped in bad situations was overpowering. He really needed to learn when to keep it under control. He rolled his shoulders a bit then slowly looked over at her.
“Lock things away? This isn’t a Forerunner facility is it? If the Flood is on this station….it will need to be destroyed.” He said this plainly as he stared at her. He then blinked and spoke in a skeptical tone, “Something I need to know, ma’am? I truly hope I won’t regret taking you with me.”
“No its not a forerunner facility, it isnt infected by the flood either, the thing is that… There is a weapon of mass destruction aboard” she said with a tone full of shame, “it doesnt have to get into the wrong hands, for when at its full capacity, it can destroy an entire planet…” She started walking away from the room, “its at the core, its deactivated and only i know how to activate it but if im not going to be here i’ll have to make sure no one learns how to” she faced him once again and says “i need you to make me that favor, there are also wandering projects but those are no threat for ive been able to domesticate them” she opens up the door that leads to the shortcut to the weapon and waits for his answer. “I hope this doesnt change anything”
The Chief stiffened when she mentioned there was a weapon of mass destruction on board. He stared over at her then stared at the door. He frowned in his helmet and mulled it over. Could he trust this girl? She kind of reminded him of Cortana. But only slightly. He walked forward with a sigh.
He then stopped and shook his head, “If there is a weapon that powerful on this station, then it will have to be destroyed. The galaxy has advanced in a lot of ways and alien forces would easily be able to repurpose it. I’m sorry but….I can’t let this station stay.”
